2021 Gear Guide Summary

By October 2, 2020General

It’s been 4 years since we released the first Freestyle products with the intent to create a range of products which specialise in active light lure fishing in and around cities. Through your feedback, we gain experience and knowledge that help us create new and innovative solutions to make your active sessions more comfortable and most of all successful.

The 2021 Gear Guide features our biggest ever product release with over 100 new products for you to enjoy. In this post, I would like to summarise some of the most innovative products this year and hopefully give you a bit of background about how and why we created them. In this post, I will focus on landing nets, terminal tackle and rods.

1. Landing Nets

We needed to create a viable solution to permanently fix long telescopic net handles. The current solutions of EVA, cork or rubber bungs work well but their durability can fade when used often over a long period.

Our new Screw Lock mechanism is highly durable and will guarantee your net handle stays together and continues to function for the long term.

The Screw Lock also allowed us to create a double-length system with the Xtender Net Handle. This net handle can now be opened to half-length and full length separately. It’s very handy when fishing on various bank heights.

2. Terminal Tackle

Our new terminal tackle additions have been designed with the focus on versatility. We needed to give anglers control over rig building and presentation. We think we will see a host of new rig styles popping up over 2021 with the help of our terminal tackle products.

Chatter blades allow you to create your own chatter baits, even in very small sizes with the 16mm blade. Each pack comes complete with 2 blades and 4 tiny split rings. The blades can be attached to a micro jighead, a bottom jig or a Jika Jig. Versatility in its finest!

The Jig Slips allow anglers to add a skirt to any type of jig or hook. Simply slide them on before you add your lure. They can even be shortened to display a different structure!

Twitch Weights allow you to fish seriously ultra-light. They are fantastic when fishing in still water or canals. The weights can be quickly changed and the speed in which your lure sinks can be controlled by how far you choose to set them from the lure!

Tocka takes the “Tokyo Rig” further. The two brass rattles on stiff clear fluorocarbon can be locked using the stopper to create a silent presentation. Simply clip onto a fluorocarbon snap with a Gamakatsu Worm hook! This rig can be jigged slowly or even fished slowly scrapping the water bed.

3. Rods

This year we have improved the SKILLZ blank to make them stiffer, providing more feedback. The rods are thinner and a little lighter than the original. We developed them together with the SKILLZ V2 reels to provide anglers with a perfectly balanced setup when combined.

The range features more ultra-light rods and a couple of light dropshot rods with solid tips. There is even a baitcasting rod for each weight class (micro lure, light lure and versatile).

The FSi range is our new flagship when it comes to urban rods. Made with highly sensitive 40T carbon and high-quality Japanese components this specialist range of rods are seriously lightweight and sensitive with a strong backbone for their weight class! There are also some baitcasting versions for those who love to fish with a baitcaster.
