Urban Prey Best Hook Sizes
As we mentioned in the previous blog post, all Urban Prey Lures are designed around the same slim body. When choosing a hook for your lures always consider the action of the lure, and that inserting a solid steel wire will change the action or prevent it altogether.
Here are our recommendations for hook sizes and type for each Urban Prey lure.
The Hooks
Freestyle Jigheads are made using Gamakatsu Jig 29 and Jig 22 hooks. We recommend the Jig 29 for these slim micro lures. It is short which maximises lure action and it has a wide gape for optimal hooking potential. On occasions where you notice you are receiving a lot of bites at the back of the lure, switch to a Jig 22. The shank is longer and the hook point reaches further towards the rear of the lure.
When Bottom Jigging or fishing the JIKA, we recommend using Gamakatsu Worm hooks. The best hook size for our lures is a Worm 330 #1 and Worm 325 #6. These hooks have a wide eye for maximum movement on the jig. They can also help when fishing in weedy areas.
