Modern predator fishing is constantly evolving and rigs such as the Cheburashka offer anglers the opportunity to present their lures more flexibly and effectively. One outstanding example is the Eyed Bottom Jigs, which have been specially developed for the Cheburashka rig. In this blog post, we take a look at the Cheburashka rig, what makes it special and how best to use the Eyed Bottom Jigs.
What is a Cheburashka and what makes it so special?
The Cheburashka is a flexible rig that originated in Russia and allows the angler to separate the hook from the weight. Compared to conventional jig heads, this technique allows the lure to move more freely, resulting in a more natural presentation. This is particularly advantageous in situations where the fish react hesitantly or in waters with a lot of structure.why is the Cheburashka rig so special?
- Greater freedom of movement: The loose connection between hook and weight allows the lure to move more freely, giving it a more realistic behaviour in the water. This can be crucial, especially in cold waters when the fish are cautious.
- Flexibility in the choice of hook: As the weight and hook are not fixed, you can adjust the hooks depending on the bait and fishing situation. This gives you more control and variability in your lure presentation. The ideal hook for this is the Gamakatsu Single 31.
- Versatility: The Cheburashka Rig works very well in environments with lots of structure, such as between stones, in weeds or around obstacles. As the hook moves, the bait gets stuck less often, which minimises bait loss.
One of the most striking features of the eyed bottom jigs is the realistic fish eye, which not only gives these jigs a special visual appeal, but also serves as a direct point of attack for predatory fish. This detail attracts additional attention in the water and increases the chances of catching fish as it appeals to their natural instincts.
The Chebu weights are available in 3.5, 7, 10 and 14 grams in three different colours so that they can be easily adapted to the conditions of the water in question. The weight is easily recognisable in each case. They can be offered with an open hook point or as an offset version.
The eyed bottom jigs are made from a lead-free alloy, which makes them a sustainable choice. Especially in sensitive waters, this is a great advantage to minimise the ecological footprint when fishing without having to sacrifice performance and efficiency.
How to rig your eyed bottom jig

Step 1 – For the eyed bottom jig, use a suitable soft lure, a freestyle lure loop and a Gamakatsu Worm 330 off-set hook.
Step 2 – Screw a Lure Loop with the thread into the head of the bait.
Step 3 – Thread an offset hook through the eye of the Lure Loop and attach the lure as usual.
Step 4 – Now the hook is correctly pulled onto the lure. Use the Lure Loop to prevent the head of the soft lure from tearing off.
Step 5 – The eyed bottom jig can then be attached. To do this, thread the clip through the eye of the hook.
Step 6 – Position the wire so that the kinked end is turned towards the hook and the weight can be slid onto the wire.
Step 7 – Now you are ready to start casting with a correctly installed Cheburashka rig.
The Eyed Bottom Jigs from Spro Freestyle are the perfect choice for modern Cheburashka rigs and offer an unbeatable combination of flexibility and effectiveness. Try it out and take your bait presentation to the next level!
